The Dancing Bear Cafe sits up on a hill in the country
between Higginsville Missouri and the little town of
Corder. The restaurant offers fine dining every
Saturday night to the public by reservation and is
open for private parties of 15 or more any day of the
week. Chef Katie Crutchfields menu is eclectic, exotic
and exciting with something for everyone. The Dancing
Bear building was built in the late 1800's and was
once part of the largest chicken farm in Lafayette
county. Built out of brick and tile it housed the
chicken hatchery. Over the years it was scheduled for
demolition several times. Crutchfield moved to the
midwest in 1994 from Santa Barbara, California and
purchased the farm. She and her husband Bryan turned
the old brick hatchery into the restaurant in the fall
of 1999.
The menu at the Dancing Bear changes seasonaly. From a
warming bowl of Ginger Butternut Squash soup in the
fall to a refreshing White Corn Rosemary soup in the
summer. The restaurant uses the freshest ingredients,
organic greens and wild salmon. Delicious desserts
from warm Mini Kahlua Mud Cake with Choclate Ganache
to blackberry cobbler. |

Chef Katie Crutchfield moved to Missouri in 1994 from
Santa Barbara, California where she was a Trompe
L'oeil artist and was known as well for her artistic
skills as a caterer.
"I think one of the things that
people love about the Dancing Bear aside from the
great food is the comfortable atmosphere. Each table
feels like they are hosting their own private dinner
party. I love to cook and entertain friends and
that is what the restaurant feels like," says chef and
owner, Katie Crutchfield. |
